I adore & am grateful (day 17) for family heirlooms! Of which we have many. From my Gma's Yellow-ware bowl to hubs GGG Grandfather's hand built table, tiny chairs that were made for tiny people, to hand crocheted doilies. Most things are over 200 yrs old that fill our house. None of which are replaceable.
I not only love collecting family heirlooms, but I love to use them. I figure what's the sense in having them if all they do is collect dust and not memories.
Every week I use my Gma's Yellow-ware bowl (it must be at least 100 yrs old if not older) to mix my sourdough. I believe it tastes better coming from a bowl that she probably used for sourdough many many years ago! I've also got her big wooden dough bowl which I need to pull out and try with the sourdough! How authentic is that!!!
I told hubs to be extra careful with it. That if anyone breaks it, it needs to be me, cause the heartache will be deep and I'd hate to be angry at anyone but myself. He understood completely and was relieved to not have to handle it!!
It is however VERY sturdy. Gma must of nicked it many a time. I've whacked it on the lip of the granite countertop and nothing happened.....but I will stop trying my luck!
They are priceless!!!
